U.S. President Donald Trump says he will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Aug. 15 to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.
Trump hinted any potential deal could involve a “swapping of territories,” though details remain unclear. The Kremlin has yet to confirm the meeting, which comes as Moscow and Kyiv remain far apart on peace terms.
The announcement marks Putin’s first U.S. visit since 2015 and the first U.S.-Russia summit since 2021. Ahead of the talks, Putin spoke with Chinese leader Xi Jinping and other allies, possibly to brief them on potential outcomes.
Meanwhile, intense fighting continues along Ukraine’s 1,000-km front line, with Ukrainian forces facing manpower shortages but vowing to hold their ground.
