The third reading vote of the 2026 Appropriation Bill—Sri Lanka’s 80th Budget—is set to take place today (05) at 6:00 p.m., the Parliament’s Department of Communication announced.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his capacity as Minister of Finance, presented the second reading of the Appropriation Bill on November 07, 2025. The second reading was subsequently passed on November 14, 2025, with a strong majority of 118 votes.
A total of 160 MPs voted in favour, 42 voted against, and 08 abstained.
Although 17 days were allocated for the committee-stage (third reading) debate, several sessions were adjourned due to adverse weather conditions affecting parliamentary proceedings.
Meanwhile, the Department of Communication confirmed that a supplementary estimate has been submitted to provide immediate relief to communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah, which caused extensive flooding and disruptions across the country.
