The Sri Lanka Police has issued a clarification regarding a false letter currently circulating on social media platforms.
Investigations have been initiated by the Criminal Investigation Department to take necessary legal action against those responsible for spreading false information.
The letter, titled “Conviction,” falsely bears the name and forged signature of the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Priyantha Weerasooriya, and is being shared widely online. It also falsely names an institution called “Cyber Crime Headquarters, Colombo, Sri Lanka,” which does not exist in the country.
The content includes misleading and baseless statements, and it misuses emblems resembling the National Emblem of Sri Lanka, the Supreme Court seal, and the Sri Lanka Police insignia.
The Sri Lanka Police clarifies that the positions, statements, and claims mentioned in the document have never been issued by the police and that the letter appears to have been deliberately created to mislead the public and discredit the Police Department.
