Parliament Resumes After New Year Break

Parliamentary proceedings have resumed today (07) under the leadership of the Speaker, marking the first session after the Sinhala and Tamil New Year break. The session is scheduled to continue tomorrow as well. Today’s debate will run from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., followed by a half-hour debate on an adjournment motion by the opposition. Tomorrow, six Private Member’s Motions are expected to be debated, including proposals by MP Hesha Withanage regarding benefits to public representatives and former state leaders, and MP Ravi Karunanayake’s proposal to ensure every family has access to a home.
