MOA Temporarily Calls Off Island-Wide Strike

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has temporarily called off the island-wide strike that was scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. today (31).
In a statement, the GMOA said the decision was made following a special discussion held last night (30) with Minister of Health Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, the Director General of Health Services, and GMOA representatives.
According to the association, an agreement was reached to suspend the arbitrary transfer of doctors initiated by the Ministry of Health in violation of the established procedure. Instead, transfers will now be carried out within a specified timeframe following the accepted methodology.
The GMOA further stated that the agreements will be confirmed during a special meeting with administrative doctors of the Ministry of Health scheduled for today.
Taking these developments into consideration, the GMOA has extended the suspension of the strike until 12 noon today, pending written confirmation of the agreements reached.
However, the association warned that if the Ministry fails to honor the commitments made during discussions, the strike will be resumed at any time.
