Colombo, Oct. 1 – President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in a special message to mark World Children’s Day and Elders’ Day 2025, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and wellbeing of both generations.
Highlighting that children represent the nation’s future, the President pledged to ensure their physical and mental wellbeing through equal access to education, healthcare, protection, and social support. He also stressed the importance of providing special care for children with developmental challenges, including autism.
“Their joyful smiles are the hope and strength of our nation,” President Dissanayake said.
The President further honoured the invaluable contribution of elders, emphasizing the need to build a society where both children and elders live with dignity, security, and respect.
“We extend our deepest respect and gratitude to our elders for their invaluable contribution to the progress of our country,” he added.
The President noted that the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, through this year’s World Children’s Day commemoration under the theme “Protect with Love – Empower to Conquer the World”, will play a pivotal role in advancing these objectives.
Concluding his message, President Dissanayake called on all Sri Lankans to unite in building a nation where the youngest and oldest generations are empowered and protected.
