Kazakhstan to Join Abraham Accords, Trump Announces

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that Kazakhstan will join the Abraham Accords, marking another step in normalizing relations between Israel and Muslim-majority nations.

The announcement followed a phone call between Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

“We will soon announce a signing ceremony to make it official, and there are many more countries trying to join this club of strength,” Trump said on Truth Social.

While Kazakhstan already maintains full diplomatic and economic relations with Israel, the move is viewed as largely symbolic, aimed at strengthening regional ties and reaffirming U.S. influence in Central Asia — a region long dominated by Russia and increasingly engaged by China.

Trump met with Tokayev and four other Central Asian leaders at the White House on Thursday.

Earlier, U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff hinted at the development during a business forum in Florida, saying he would return to Washington for an announcement. Axios later reported that Kazakhstan would be the country joining the accords.

A source familiar with the matter said the U.S. hopes Kazakhstan’s entry will reinvigorate the Abraham Accords, the expansion of which has slowed amid the ongoing Gaza conflict.

The Abraham Accords, a hallmark of Trump’s first term, saw the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain establish diplomatic ties with Israel in 2020, followed by Morocco later that year.

Trump has repeatedly expressed optimism about Saudi Arabia joining the accords, particularly since a ceasefire in Gaza last month. However, Riyadh has signaled that it will not proceed without a credible path toward Palestinian statehood.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is expected to visit the White House on November 18.

Other Central Asian nations, including Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, which already have close relations with Israel, are also being viewed as potential future signatories to the accords.
