India has stepped up its humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka as the island nation battles severe flooding and landslides caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
An Indian Air Force C-17 transport aircraft landed in Colombo carrying a self-contained modular field hospital, more than 70 medical and support personnel, and essential vehicles, India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar confirmed on X (formerly Twitter).
“India continues to aid Sri Lanka’s efforts at flood relief,” he stated.
In a parallel effort, the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sukanya arrived at the Trincomalee Port on Monday with additional relief supplies. This follows the November 28 handover of humanitarian materials by INS Vikrant and INS Udaygiri, which were on port calls in Colombo.
The assistance is part of Operation Sagar Bandhu, launched to bolster Sri Lanka’s nationwide disaster response. Under the operation, Indian emergency teams are working closely with the Sri Lankan Air Force, Navy, Army, Police, and local authorities.
Joint evacuation missions, medical assistance, and the transportation of essential supplies are underway across several flood-affected districts.
