
More than 1,000 individuals were arrested on Monday (10) during a series of island-wide anti-drug raids conducted under the theme “A Nation United”, a nationwide initiative aimed at eradicating narcotics from Sri Lanka.
According to the Police Media Division, a total of 1,060 suspects were apprehended during 1,066 raids carried out across the island within 24 hours.
Police further stated that 36 individuals are being held under detention orders for further investigations, while 24 identified drug addicts have been referred to rehabilitation centres.
During the operations, authorities also seized 732 grams of heroin and 583 grams of crystal methamphetamine (‘Ice’) along with other illicit substances.
