The long-awaited renovation of the Pettah Central Bus Stand commenced this morning (15) under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Built in 1964, the Pettah Bus Stand is undergoing a complete renovation for the first time in six decades, with the project estimated to cost Rs. 424 million.
The renovation plan includes the installation of modern restrooms, information and communication centers, upgraded security systems, and other essential facilities aimed at improving commuter convenience. The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) has been entrusted with carrying out the renovation work, according to reports.
Meanwhile, as part of the ‘Dream Destination’ program under the Clean Sri Lanka Project, renovation work at the Maradana Railway Station is also scheduled to begin today. Officials noted that the project will be implemented in a manner that safeguards the station’s historical value and architectural character while upgrading its facilities.
