Sri Lanka Welcomes UN Resolution Endorsing New York Declaration on Palestine

Sri Lanka has welcomed the adoption of a United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution endorsing the New York Declaration on the peaceful settlement of the Question of Palestine and the implementation of the two-state solution.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism expressed appreciation to Saudi Arabia and France for their leadership in advancing this important initiative.

The UN General Assembly adopted the resolution with 142 votes in favor, 10 against, and 12 abstentions.

The declaration emphasizes the urgent need to bring the Gaza conflict to an end, condemns attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, as well as the blockade and starvation, which have resulted in a devastating humanitarian catastrophe.

Reaffirming its unwavering support, Sri Lanka reiterated the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to statehood, in line with the principles of the UN Charter and relevant UN resolutions.
