The Department of Meteorology says showers will occur at times today (13) in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Several spells of showers are also expected in the North-western province. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50mm is likely in some areas of the Sabaragamuwa province, as well as in the Nuwara Eliya and Kandy districts.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province, and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2:00 p.m.
Strong winds of 40–50 km/h can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, and in the Northern, North-central, North-western, and Southern provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee district.
The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize damage from temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
