The Police Special Task Force (STF) seized 10 kg of Kush cannabis valued at around Rs. 1 billion during raids in Gothatuwa and Kaduwela on August 6.
A 35-year-old suspect was arrested in Manigamulla with 5.154 kg of Kush, a mobile phone, and Rs. 100,000 in suspected drug money. Another suspect, aged 64, was caught near the Kaduwela Expressway entrance with 5.106 kg of Kush, a car, and Rs. 150,000 in cash.
Police say one suspect had previously been arrested by the CID in 2021 and detained for 20 months, and had also worked as a land manager for a person linked to the Easter Sunday attacks.
Authorities revealed the drugs were supplied by “Chappa,” an associate of imprisoned underworld figure Dematagoda Chaminda.
