The Kandy Magistrate’s Court has granted bail to retired Senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Priyantha Jayakody.

Jayakody was previously remanded by the Mahara Magistrate’s Court after being arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for allegedly lodging a false complaint.

The remand order was issued following a medical examination conducted by the Mahara Magistrate while Jayakody was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Ragama.

He was arrested on July 28 in connection with a complaint claiming he had received death threats from underworld figure Koralagamage Mandinu Padmasiri, also known as ‘Kehelbaddara Padme’.

However, CID investigations have revealed that the complaint was fabricated by Jayakody himself in an attempt to ensure his personal safety.
