June 20 – Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Israel, Nimal Bandara, says that arrangements are in place to assist Sri Lankans wishing to leave Israel due to the prevailing security situation.
The Embassy has already begun issuing certified letters to Sri Lankans planning to travel from Israel to Sri Lanka via Egypt, the Ambassador told Ada Derana.
On Wednesday (19), four Sri Lankan nationals were successfully facilitated to return to Sri Lanka through Egyptian border crossings, with coordination from the Sri Lankan Embassy in Cairo.
Ambassador Bandara stated that although June 20 and 21 are public holidays in Israel, the Sri Lankan Embassy will remain open to assist citizens.
He further noted that more Sri Lankans are expected to leave the country in the coming days, and requested those seeking travel clearance letters to visit the Embassy with their passports and visas.
Sri Lankans holding valid Israeli visas will be granted a 96-hour transit visa through Egypt for a fee of USD 50, according to Ambassador Bandara.
