The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has released former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella and his son Ramith Rambukwella on bail.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali issued the order after reviewing submissions by both the Bribery Commission and the defense counsel.
Each of the suspects was granted Rs. 50,000 cash bail and two surety bails worth Rs. 1 million each.
An overseas travel ban has also been imposed on both individuals.
The Bribery Commission alleges that Keheliya Rambukwella caused a financial loss of over Rs. 8 million to the government through the unlawful appointment of 15 staff members to his ministerial office and collecting their salaries and allowances.
Keheliya Rambukwella was arrested on May 7, and Ramith was taken into custody on May 21 after presenting himself to CIABOC for a statement.The next court hearing is scheduled for October 10.
