Polling Centres Set Up for Tomorrow’s Local Government Elections

The Election Commission has commenced preparations for polling centres across Sri Lanka today (May 5) in view of the Local Government elections scheduled for tomorrow (May 6) from 7 AM to 4 PM. Voting will take place at 13,759 polling stations for 339 Local Government bodies, with over 11.5 million eligible voters.

Over 65,000 police officers will be deployed for security, and around 3,000 observers will monitor the process. Due to the election, all schools and universities will remain closed today and tomorrow, reopening on May 7. Revenue license counters in the Western Province and the Narahenpita Department of Motor Traffic will also be closed during this period. Vehicle owners whose license renewals expire during this time will not face penalties if renewed on the next working day.
